And my journey has led me down the same path to wanting more, and knowing that it was attainable…but also feeling stuck. For years I felt on edge, had a short fuse, and struggled to find peace with the choices I made. I didn’t understand boundaries. I didn’t know how to extend myself compassion, especially after long days working with critically ill patients. After working as an RN for 20 years, I needed more space. Then, I learned… Creating space for more is a physiological process that is in my control. Just like routinely stretching after a run will increase your flexibility, the routine maintenance of your nervous system will change how your body and brain function so you can access the capacity for the more that you seek. You muse, “but everything seems fine - how am I so stuck?” *judgment ensues* “I must not be doing enough self care” So, you meditate. Massage. Yoga. Cold plunge. Pray. ANYTHING to manage these symptoms. But nothing sticks, because the root of your dysregulation is your perception that you’re not doing enough, and your nervous system continues reads that as your body being tapped out. Tension in the body takes up space, uses energy, and decreases the capacity to tap into your innate reflexes. That is the feeling of being stuck. That feeling will trigger your nervous system to protect you from receiving more because you don't have the capacity to hold it. You’re already operating on all cylinders, and are energetically tapped out. Resonating? The good news is the ability to shift comes directly from within you. You are in control. You have the power! craniosacral therapy? 

Craniosacral therapy (CST) is a gentle fascial release that may provide relief from a variety of symptoms including headaches, neck pain, and side effects of cancer treatment among many others. Light touch is used to examine membranes and movement of fluids in and around the central nervous system. Relieving tension in the central nervous system promotes a feeling of well-being by eliminating pain and boosting health and immunity.

the nervous system?

​Your nervous system is the command center of the body, made of nerves and cells that carry messages to and from the brain & spinal cord to the rest of your body. By transporting these messages back and forth, your brain and organ systems keep things functioning smoothly - from things as simple as your brain telling your heart to beat and your lungs to breathe, to how to speak and move. When this happens and there’s open communication with the nervous system and the body, there is less inflammation and stagnation.  When there’s a lot going on in your life, even if it’s fun and exciting, your body can't tell the difference between positive and negative stressors.  Basically, you could be living your best life - training for a race, planning your dream wedding, or traveling the world, but the events that you experience  everyday are stored in your body at a cellular and subconscious level. In other words, you may not be fully aware of how much stress your body is under, which then dysregulates the nervous system. This dysregulation  creates density & stagnant energy, which cues our bodies to turn on fight or flight mode. The catch here is that our bodies are not designed to stay in fight or flight mode for long periods of time, because this creates more inflammation and stagnation. This often shows up in your body as chronic disease, as other physical, spiritual and emotional, ailments.

regulation?

Nervous system regulation is the active maintenance of keeping your nervous system in a rest + digest state. The question is, “how do I get my body to rest + digest most of the time to avoid too much stress from being in fight or flight?”...That’s where regulation and reprogramming comes into play. Similar to how stretching before a run keeps cramps at bay and increases flexibility, using regulation techniques helps your body do more while staying in a rest + digest state. Of course there will be stressors that tell your body when it’s time to go into fight or flight to protect itself, but practicing hygiene for your nervous system allows you to know when to tell your body that its safe to go back to rest + digest. This is the reprogramming part: you’re informing and reminding your body that it is safe. You’re giving your body more compassion, less overthinking, and learning to trust yourself and your intuitive choices more. With the tools learned in sessions with me, you’ll learn to practice them on your own and use them when you need them most. But first, we do them together so that you're familiar and comfortable doing them on your own. In the hospital as an RN, we run what’s called “mock codes” so that we know what to do in times of Code Blue emergencies. We practice using the tools in a controlled situation so that we can be more effective in real emergencies. I help you match the tool to the energy, and we use the tools together as a means of allowing your body to begin letting go of its stress. Then, you have the tools to use in times of high-stress situations without me next to you, so that you can practice regulating on your own; you can use these tools in everyday activities like washing dishes, driving to work, etc, to continue letting your body know that it is supported and safe. We all experience traumas throughout life, and since the body keeps score (even though we may not be consciously aware of it), it can manifest as a feeling of impending doom. This is because your nervous system knows and remembers all of those traumas and high stress situations that you’ve been through. With regulation, and reprogramming, I’ve got you and your body covered in learning how to move through it.

reprogramming? 

The beliefs that we hold are instilled from birth and are held in our subconscious mind. Things like what parents modeled for you, what teachers taught you, how friends influenced you - it’s all stored in your subconscious mind. The beliefs we hold combined with our daily experiences create data points that our body reads as stress responses. These are things we could otherwise easily deal with, but when we experience things like trauma and stressful situations in the midst of this - our system goes into shut down mode! We get defensive, judgemental, shameful, and even fearful. Our beliefs dictate our thoughts and choices. Every decision you make every day - brushing your teeth, going for a walk, what you choose to eat, etc - is made from a belief that you hold (even if you’re unaware of it). Your decisions and behaviors align with your beliefs! So, when you want to change your reality, you also need to ask yourself the question, “what do I believe about this?” Remember: the body keeps score, and the brain’s ONLY job is to keep you alive and safe. So, if your belief is that you cannot take a risk, ask for a pay raise, or set a boundary, then your brain will seek to prove you right. Your brain doesn’t know the difference between something that could be expansive for your life, and something that is life-threatening. So when you want to change your reality, it’s vital to ask yourself the question: “what do I believe about this?” - AKA, reprogramming your thoughts. If you are not actively reprogramming your beliefs any nervous system regulation work will be undone, which is why this aspect is so powerful in my sessions. For example: if you’re seeking to lose weight, you wouldn’t stop after just one workout and tell yourself, “I can never lose weight because it’s just not possible”. You have to continue making healthy lifestyle choices in order to see and feel results. In order for your brain to BELIEVE that it is possible, you have to show it that it is! Before you know it, you stop focusing on distressing thoughts and triggers, and are staying focused on what it is that you are accomplishing. You start to believe, “I got this!”.

the touch experience

     the touch experience consists of three components that create a truly unique experience, giving your mind and body what is needed most to release and relax. These three components are regulation, reprogramming, and reflection. The session is designed to engage your five senses, helping you connect to the present moment and experience healing. As well as be able to reflect back to the moment, as you integrate the experience in the subsequent days.
 

     Sessions are done fully clothed. We'll chat for a moment about what might be sticking you, then begin with intuitive massage to your areas of tension - neck, shoulders, forearms. We begin this way to help relax the mind. Once you’ve anchored into the moment, we move on to light pressure craniosacral holds on different areas of the body to release the fascia anchoring the body's frame, while you listen to a guided meditation. The session moves you from a stress state, into a rest state, where healing can occur. 

     With this in-home experience, you have the comfort and convenience of being in your own space, allowing yourself to fully anchor into the moment. Each session is customized for your needs, therefore session times will vary, and can be tailored to fit your busy schedule. Please allow extra time in your first session for intake review.
